FEMA –  If you recently received a letter from FEMA advising you that you may be affected by the new flood maps, below are answers to commonly asked questions.  Should you need additional information, please contact Stephen Dutcher at 865-5204.

Where can I view the new maps?

Maps are available at the Town and Village Office buildings or you can view them on line at http://www.bit.ly/1kdXZdY.

Do I need flood insurance?

1) Yes, if you have a federally backed loan and you have a dwelling situated in a special flood hazard area.

2) Yes, if your lending institution requires you to buy flood insurance because your dwelling is situated in or near a special flood hazard area.

3) You should consider purchasing flood insurance if your dwelling is situated in or near a special flood hazard area even if it isn’t required.

Where can I learn more about what my community is doing to help prevent future flooding and to reduce the cost of flood insurance?

Everyone is encouraged to attend a Walton Flood Commission Public meeting where they will discuss their plans to reduce flooding in our local area. Future meetings will be advertised on this site as well as on WDLA and in the Walton Reporter.
