Statement from Assessor

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE TOWN ASSESSOR:

Dear Resident,

Recently, I have received a number of calls from residents about mailings from tax abatement companies. These companies send bulk mailings to communities all across New York State and will accept any case regardless of its location or merit. Due to their lack of knowledge of our area, and the sheer volume of work they handle, the quality of information used in the grievance process is minimal at best. This practice not only strains local resources but also costs our small town tax dollars to defend cases that have no merit.

Please note that this is strictly a for-profit business focused on its profits, not your property value.

While you are welcome to use their services, we strongly encourage you to speak with your assessor instead. If your property is genuinely overvalued, your chances of a reduction are much greater, and you would not have to give half of the savings to a company.

The Tentative Roll will be published on May 1st. If you have any questions about your assessment, now is the time to contact the Assessor’s Office. Grievance Day will be held on May 28, 2025 from 4:00PM-8:00PM

Sincerely,

Penny Haddad, Assessor
